If you have been bitten
Activate your emergency medical system first:
for most places it is 911
If you are bitten by a snake don’t chance it, Call 911. If it was a poisonous snake, depending on what it was, you need an anti-venom as soon as possible. When you call 911 try to describe the snake but do not get near it. Also try to describe the bite, if it is a pit viper it will have two puncture wounds, others may look almost like a human bite mark.
Poisonous snake bites are medical emergencies and require immediate attention. The bite of a snake can cause severe local tissue damage and often requires follow-up care. The right anti-venom can save a person's life. Even though most snakes are not poisonous, avoid picking up or playing with any snake unless you have been properly trained.
Treatment includes:
Call 911 first!
Try to stay calm and do not move more than necessary – to keep your heart rate down and slow circulation of blood and poison.
Wash the bite area with clean water.
Then bandage the area but do not cut off circulation.
Follow any instructions given by your doctor or 911 personnel.
Things you do not do.
Cut the bite area and / or suck out the poison.
Do not put a tourniquet on unless directed to by your doctor or EMS Personal.
